Hunger at Grace
Grace Lutheran Church is working to end hunger in our own community
and around the world.
Grace Lutheran Church supports the
Churches United food pantry
operated by Sacred Heart Cathedral. Each month we ask members to bring
non-perishable goods to re-stock the downtown location at 3rd and Main
street.
Our current goal is to collect 300 items each "Food Pantry Weekend", the
first weekend of every month. We also realize that hunger continues
each day, so we encourage your food donation at any time of the
month. You can bring your food pantry donations and leave them in the
basket in the narthex any time you happen to be at Grace. You can
download a "shopping list (pdf)"
of items which are always in need. The food pantry is open Monday,
Wednesday, and Friday, from 9:00 to 11:30 AM.
Members of Grace also:
*are involved with Quad City Harvest, a volunteer organization which
delivers leftover food to shelters.
*provide milk donations to Davenport's John Lewis Coffeehouse
*prepare and serve regular meals through the mealsite at St. Joseph's
Catholic Church in Rock Island.
You can contact the
Church Office
to forward your request to help with one of these opportunities.
Grace Lutheran Church encourages your participation in
Bread for the World, a nationwide
Christian citizens movement seeking justice for the world's hungry
people by lobbying our nation's decision makers. You can find
information about what you can do on Grace's Bread for the World
bulletin board in the hallway outside the Sanctuary, in Grace Notes
monthly newsletter, or checking the Bread for the World website.
The offerings of our Sunday School students during the 2004-2005 year
are being dedicated to ending world hunger through
The Heifer Project Heifer
International's mission is to work with communities to end hunger and
poverty and to care for the earth. As people share their animals'
offspring with others- along with their knowledge, resources, and
skills- an expanding network of hope, dignity, and self-reliance is
created that reaches around the globe.
We support benevolence through the wider church as well. Learn more
